The Cambridge International Law Journal runs the widely read CILJ Blog, for short analysis pieces and case notes on issues of international law and EU law. With the turn of a new year, the Blog hopes to expand engagement from early-career researchers and experts with interest in international law matters – to reflect the myriad ways in which the field is changing.
2022 is a landmark year in this respect, with milestone celebrations of pivotal moments and mechanisms in the history of international law. In November, for instance, 75 years will have passed since the UN General Assembly approved the creation of the International Law Commission. Moreover, half a century will elapse since the signing of the World Heritage Convention, the filing of the first ICSID arbitration, and the Stockholm Declaration on the Human Environment. 2022 also marks 30 years since the Rio Declaration and the signing of multilateral environmental agreements such as the Convention on Biological Diversity and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. These and other milestones lend themselves well to reflective symposia on the trajectory of international law, akin to the Blog’s recent symposium on COP26 at Glasgow.
In this light, the Managing Editor of the CILJ Blog welcomes submissions for discrete blog posts or proposed symposia. While the themes proposed above are indicative, proposals and submissions on other subjects in international law/EU law are equally welcomed. Please see below for details. Further clarification can be obtained from the Managing Editor of the CILJ Blog, Mr. Tejas Rao ([email protected]).
Proposing A Symposium
The CILJ Blog aims to give space to early-career researchers and well-established scholars to showcase innovative ideas by hosting a symposium. It is contemplated that a symposium will contain five pieces, published over five days in a week determined by the Managing Editor, based on the publication cycle of the Blog. The specifics for a symposium will be discussed directly with the proposing and contributing authors, with the ambition of ensuring flexibility in style.
Proposals to host a symposium can be made at any time and will be considered on a rolling basis.
Submissions can be sent by e-mail to the Managing Editor of the CILJ Blog at [email protected]. The submission must include a brief description (max 200 words) of what the symposium aims to achieve, the proposed structure, and contributing authors for the symposium (maximum five). Should it be envisaged that the symposium be conducted at a specific time (because of relevancy to a particular week, theme or anniversary in the world of international Law), please include the same within your e-mail.
Submitting Blog Posts
Blog Posts may be submitted at any time and are considered on a rolling basis. Submissions should not exceed 1,500 words and can be on any issues of international law, including EU law. Please do not submit unrevised university projects, or pieces under consideration elsewhere to the Blog directly.
We aim to provide a response on whether the submission is accepted or not within 10 days. Submissions can be made via the following link:
